During the Pilar long weekend, in a place full of history, spirituality and beauty like Caravaca de la Cruz, the Mariapolis of the Focolare Movement will be celebrated this year.
From October 9 to 12, a program will be held in Caravaca de la Cruz (Murcia) with the motto "Paths of fraternity" which includes moments of reflection, exchange of experiences, workshops and round tables, in an atmosphere of fraternity among people of all ages from different regions.
Mariapolis is an open invitation to everyone—families, young people, children and adults—that invites you to live a few days inspired by the Gospel, sharing daily life through fraternity, dialogue and joy.
A place that speaks to the heart
Located in the northwest of the Region of Murcia, Caravaca de la Cruz is known as one of the great pilgrimage cities of Christianity. Since the Middle Ages, thousands of people have come here attracted by the Holy and True Cross, a relic venerated since the 13th century and the origin of a profound spiritual tradition.
In 1998 she was recognized as Holy City with Perpetual Jubilee Year, A privilege it shares with places like Rome or Santiago de Compostela, making it a unique destination for those seeking to renew their faith or simply open themselves to an inner experience.
Living history in its streets
Caravaca is also a place where history is felt in every corner. Its origins date back to ancient civilizations—Iberians, Romans, and Muslims—and its medieval development made it a strategic enclave between kingdoms.
At the top of the city stands the castle-sanctuary, which houses the Basilica of the True Cross, while at its feet lies a network of narrow streets and lively squares, a legacy of centuries of cultural coexistence.
Tradition tells that in the year 1232 the Cross miraculously appeared in this place, giving rise to a devotion that has lasted to this day.
Nature, silence and encounter
Surrounded by mountains, rivers, and natural landscapes like the Fuentes del Marqués, Caravaca also offers spaces of calm and beauty where you can pause, walk, and contemplate. An ideal setting to experience a Mariapolis with depth and simplicity.
Meeting place
The main meeting point will be the Multiservice Pavilion (Salones Castillo) in Caravaca de la Cruz. The Mariapolis event is organized in collaboration with the City Council and the Diocese of Cartagena, as well as other spaces provided by local institutions and organizations.
