The Focolare Movement in Spain, like many individuals and organizations, has from the very beginning expressed its profound solidarity with all those affected by the recent episode of Isolated Depression at High Levels (IDLD), which has caused severe damage in various regions. Through our Local Communities, we are carrying out support actions and providing concrete assistance in the affected areas. Our commitment is to be present and active, promoting the rebuilding of hope and the social fabric.
Recently, José Luis Guinot he wondered in the LAR Magazine what we can do in this situation:
“Some people wonder where God is in these tragic events. Each one must review their beliefs to understand His real presence in every human being, in every person who suffers or dies. And His undeniable presence through the hands that help remove the mud, that gather food, that give a hug, comfort, and hope. We must pray for those who suffer, for those in authority, and for all of society, which is built and united in difficult times. But prayer must inspire us to make love concrete, Faith and hope alone are not enough”.
Let us remember that we are called to concrete love.
In the same sense, the Local Community Coordination Commission from Valencia (formed by Lourdes C, Lourdes I, Tere, Jordi and Charly) sent us the following statement:
"Hello everyone!
We want to thank you for all your displays of affection and support during the painful time that DANA has left us. These gestures of genuine love are truly heartwarming and encouraging!
In recent days, we have been supporting the affected people, but now movement is restricted and it is also necessary to take health precautions due to the stagnant water and biological debris from so many days.
Therefore, in an effort to be concrete, We have launched a fundraising campaign next to the Igino Giordani Foundation, funds that we will manage locally to assist the victims. The damage and material losses are incalculable. Survivors have been left without beds, tables, refrigerators, washing machines, cars, work materials, and so on.
We also appreciate your prayers, which we of course continue to count on.
“In Unity.”
Also among young people of the Motion Initiatives and actions are emerging from all over our country. As they themselves point out:
"Right now, around fifty of us are organizing to travel to Valencia this weekend. We know that the messages we're receiving are numerous and sometimes contain contradictory opinions. We've contacted the CLocal Community of Valencia and with volunteers already working in the area and who have an organized work plan, so that we can guarantee our safety and that of others, so that we can provide real help at the present time, without hindering other work or cleanup tasks carried out by professional services. (…)
This will be the first of many initiatives we will try to carry out in the coming months."
