Some experiences last longer than summer. That's how many families describe the "Boys for Unity" retreat, organized by the Focolare Movement, which will hold a new edition from July 11 to 18, 2026 at the Villuercas hostel in Cañamero (Cáceres).
Those who participated last year still speak of it with emotion. “My children came back happy and are already thinking about the next event,” shared one mother. Another summed up the experience with a short but meaningful phrase: “They had some unforgettable days.”.
For some of the children, it was also their first experience of this kind, as one family commented: “It was the first time my son decided to go to one of your retreats. You exceeded all his expectations; he came back happy and raving about everyone.” “This has undoubtedly been an unforgettable first time for them, full of wonderful moments that will stay with them forever,” others shared.
Families also highlighted the balance between fun and personal growth: "You've also created a really cool program" or "Thank you for your work in ensuring our children have a week full of values and fun"; expressing their gratitude for the care and affection received: "Thank you so much for all the love you've given them.".
Beyond the activities, games, or excursions, many comments highlighted the climate of closeness and care created between the young people and those in charge: "You have been like older brothers who have supported and carried our boys.".
The retreat being organized in Cáceres offers a few days to disconnect from the hustle and bustle and experience authentic connections, where everyone can feel welcomed and valued. “They come back happy because of that 'something' they shared together,‘ said one of the messages received after the previous edition.
Fun, friendship, sports, reflection, and shared life are all part of this unforgettable experience. For some of the boys, it will also be their first opportunity to forge new friendships and discover that unity and brotherhood can be lived in a concrete and simple way.
And in conclusion, the echoes that come back are of great gratitude: "Thank you for crossing our path and for now being part of our story.".
And perhaps that is the true fruit of this coexistence: returning home with more hope, more trust in others, and the desire to continue building together.
