In this new installment of the Lecture Series, we continue to delve deeper into art and education as paths to human and spiritual growth.
He will accompany us María Doreste Velázquez, Spanish pianist, musicologist, and music educator, nominated for a 2024 Grammy, mother of four, and a general and instrumental music teacher at Edison School (Boston Public Schools). She has collaborated with the Berklee Institute for Arts and Accessible Arts Education for 13 years.
In this talk, María will share her experience on the importance of cultivating emotional well-being and joy in music education. She will reflect on how inclusive practices, culturally responsive approaches, and well-designed routines can help students feel valued, safe, and motivated. She will also share concrete strategies for transforming the music classroom into a space for authentic expression and personal growth. The session will conclude with a reflection on the discovery of beauty as a path to dignifying the individual and integrating all members of the educational community.
