FOESSA Report

On exclusion and social development in Spain

Andoain reflects on social cohesion

In a context marked by inequality and the fragility of social bonds, a conference held in Andoain invited reflection on how to rebuild community based on the dignity of each person and shared responsibility.

The Urigain House of Culture in Andoain hosted the conference “Social cohesion in times of uncertainty”, organized by the Political Movement for Unity (MPpU) from the Basque Country together with the Igino Giordani Foundation and the Oreki Foundation.

The meeting brought together people committed to the social and political sphere to discuss one of the most urgent challenges of our time: the growing inequality and its consequences for coexistence and social cohesion.

The day began with the presentation of the Political Movement for Unity, an initiative born from the charism of Chiara Lubich that promotes fraternity as the foundation of public life. From this perspective, citizens, academics, and political leaders of diverse backgrounds seek to create spaces for encounter and shared reflection.

The first presentation was given by Sebastián Mora Rosado, PhD in Sociology and professor at the Pontifical University of Comillas, who offered a profound look at the new forms of social exclusion and the need to respond from a culture of care and common responsibility.

Subsequently, José Emilio Lafuente, Secretary General of Cáritas Gipuzkoa, presented the main data of the FOESSA report in the Gipuzkoa context, putting a face to situations of vulnerability that often remain invisible.

The subsequent discussion demonstrated the participants' interest and engagement. Throughout the day, questions arose about human dignity, vulnerability, immigration, rebuilding social bonds, and environmental commitment. Beyond the analysis, the meeting extended an invitation to build a more united society, one that leaves no one behind.
