The healing power of brotherhood

Solidarity that crosses borders

In 2024, some young people from Catalonia decided to organize a charity bingo game (a type of bingo typical of the Girona province) to raise funds for the victims of the DANA storm in Valencia. It was a great success with high participation, so we decided to repeat the experience this year.

But… what cause should it be dedicated to this time?
Aware of the numerous crises and needs facing the world, we all agreed that we would dedicate the 2025 budget to the conflict in the Middle East. However, Gaza is far away, and although the topic is often discussed, we realized that we lacked in-depth knowledge of the situation.

As soon as we got started, we discovered it wouldn't be as simple as the previous year. Numerous questions arose: How to approach such a polarized topic? Would we raise as much money as in the previous edition, given that we were aware that perhaps not everyone would agree with our stance? Could we address a conflict that is not only humanitarian but also political, while remaining neutral? How to portray such a harsh reality without losing coherence?

And most importantly, how could we organize the team if we couldn't even be united among ourselves?

We tried to resolve some doubts in Zoom meetings, but we didn't start finding answers until a week before the Quinct celebration. We had the opportunity to meet several young people from Palestine and Jordan who share our desire to live for universal brotherhood. They told us about their experiences and how they live day to day amidst war.

For the first time, we were able to put a face, a voice, and a name to so many news stories we see online but usually consume quickly. We were deeply impressed by how, despite their pain, these young people seek justice without hatred, conveying a message of hope, a desire for peace, and gratitude for every act of solidarity, no matter how small.

Thanks to this boost, the day of the quinine was vibrant: baskets, hot chocolate, shouts of "LINE!" and, in the background, a great desire for this tragedy to end soon.

In total we raised almost €7,000, which we donated entirely to the Igino Giordani Foundation and Caritas, who will use it to provide shelter, food, drinking water, hygiene kits and medical assistance in Lebanon and Gaza.

Thank you for making solidarity a reality.
