Economy of Communion. Luigino Bruni

We present an economic management style based on the "culture of giving," that is, a type of productive organization that aims to harmonize business rules and values with the values of communion.

Leadership that builds community

With the passing of Carlos Fernández on September 1, 2025, the Economy of Communion in Spain loses one of its strongest pillars, but his legacy continues to build.

Carlos was one of the driving forces behind the Business Management Group in Barcelona, which was founded more than three decades ago in response to a challenging question: How to manage with a sense of community? Since then, his commitment has never wavered. He contributed a profoundly human business vision, uniting professional ethics, efficiency, and a sense of community.

An engineer by training, he developed his career in geotechnical consulting, specializing in quality control equipment for foundations. At a pivotal moment, he chose to train his clients—even though it reduced profits—convinced that sharing knowledge is a way to generate common good. It was a gesture consistent with his entire life: generous, modest, and dedicated.

Even during his illness, Carlos continued to coordinate the group, adapting to new forms of virtual meetings, expanding horizons towards Latin America, and supporting each person with closeness and respect.

Carlos leaves a profound mark. He knew how to combine business acumen and camaraderie, results and care, technique and heart. His leadership style—humble, committed, and collaborative—will continue to inspire those who believe in an economy with soul.

THANK YOU, Carlos!
